Title: Yahoo JP
Post by: Kakizaki on January 28, 2007, 04:36:49 PM
Have any of you every bid/purchased anything off of Yahoo JP via a proxy bidder/service? There is an obscene amount of cool stuff there.

There are various services that will purchase the items for you -- for an additional fee of course ;).  Some of these services also use their own sites as sort of a portal, if you browse Yahoo JP auctions through their portal, it is roughly translated.  I will see if I can dig up my links. I was researching this about 9 months ago and then dropped the thought.  I'm sure someone else could explain it better then me.  I am just looking for an alternative to Ebay as there isn't nearly as much cool SMT stuff as there was 5-8 years ago, and Yahoo JP has a ton of MegaTen stuff.

I've not tried any of those, personally. eBay has really been a bust for a while, though. I find something every so often on there... if you're ever bidding against someone named Semjaza Azazel, that's me lol.

I've found otaku.com to be pretty good. They don't hold on to items long, but if you go there when something's newer you can make out pretty well. Prices are usually fair. There's some Persona 3 stuff up there now, as well as those newer hardcover Kazuma Kanenko art books.

The best thing to do is just make a friend in Japan and have them send stuff to you :/ The third party type websites rip you off. The Kazumo Kaneko artbook on otaku.com is 20 dollars overpriced. If you want Megami Tensei books (etc.) and can't find someone in Japan to get them for you, use amazon.co.jp. You can make the site display in English and pay with your US Credit Card. Of course, you'll have to search in Japanese. If you're looking for anything specific and need help getting it, please ask me.

Amazon.co.jp search for Megami Tensei

For those of you looking for items only available in Japan
but unable to purchase it because:
a) you can' t speak Japanese, or
b) the shop doesn't handle international shipping, or
c) both (a) and (b)

Go to Japan Toy: http://www.japantoy.biz (http://www.japantoy.biz)

This is an online shop run by a Japanese Ebay
merchant (who of course is residing in Japan) and
supports international shipping.
The shop owner is a reliable Ebay Power Seller which means
that your transactions will be safe and hassle-free.

Do not be misled by the name. The store sells a variety of
Japanese items (not only toys).

Services offered:
1) Proxy bidding to Japanese auction sites
2) Online shopping support for Japanese online stores
3) Online Shop (JapanToy's own online store)
4) Item find support

For more on this merchant's credentials, see:
