Title: Private Messages -- Inbox seems to have been lost Post by: yksehtniycul on August 17, 2008, 02:22:42 AM Ok, I think I've noticed the first lost aspect of the conversion process. My PM outbox was kept, but all the messages in my inbox didn't make it. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also I might also be able to get the contents of the inbox back if I look into it, so let's not use the PM system for now, because likely if I do fix the PM inbox matter you won't be able to keep any stuff added to your PM stash from this new bbs (Simple Machines Forum)
If anyone really wants their PM inbox, you can PM me and I'll help you get into it long enough to copy it out of the old forum. Probably I will be able to get the inboxes back. Just sharing that will likely be the point when the bbs will be migrated to the old url and everything will go back to normal.
Afterwards if you wanna mention the return of the bbs throughout the internet feel free to do so. Emails will be sent out to all the registered users, but they may miss them or have changed emails in the meantime. It kinda threw me that they weren't encrypted. If I can't find a way to encrypt them it makes me wonder if I should just delete all the PMs from the old bbs. We'd like to eventually make the database available for public download, so there is no question about it ever being lost again. The only alternative I can think of is to remove PMs from the public download, because at the least it is an invasion of the privacy of users of the old bbs to make that text available. That might be best, because even encrypted, if someone really wanted them they could get to them without much trouble. But it is just too tempting to read them in plain text (yes, I did skim thru the moderator's PMs, well mostly, to get an idea of the history of the bbs administration -- don't worry I'm an extremely self centered person) Meanwhile I'm still trying to track down the root of our PM woes daily in the SMF forums. PS: At second glance, half of the PMs seem to be from a bot named Stephanie. It's sorta funny just how many users responded to her after spamming the entire member list -- for their kindness the respondees seem to have been given an Albert Einstein quote about buddhism... sound familiar anyone?)
