Alright,

Our ship is seaworthy again, and I gotta admit, I'm really beat. My crystal ball is telling me it's time for a vacation.

Don't worry, I won't be far in case any emergencies arise. And you can bet I'll probably be posting as usual. But let's just say we put her in cruise control for a while.


How we're going to fill the moderator openings I reckon... for our purposes here, just for now, every 100 posts are worth 5 karma. Whoever has the most karma-cum-posts gets first pick of the litter.

I recommend you choose to moderate the boards you're less likely to be posting in regularly. That will make it easier for other moderators to award you karma if you're being helpful (you shouldn't be able to give karma to yourself)

You don't have to read every post in your board, but you should try to scan over hot topics at least. In general it's up to the population to report positive or negative posts to moderators. At that point it's the moderator's duty to take action.

If anyone feels a moderator isn't cutting the mustard, make a case, and the moderator will be reviewed and dealt with promptly. Feel free to PM me if you have a bone to pick about a moderator.

Yes, I was going to mention the 666 post count just for fun, but I've been having internet trouble. Errr, actually turns out the old router was on the fritz. I thought something was funny after three attempts to reply failed and cause the internet to clam up (actually turns out Vista was dropping the ball)

If there are no requests for specific forums, I'll divide just divide up the three forum groups amongst you by post counts. If we can get more than three mods we can start subdividing them.

You can decide which you want amongst yourselves. If there is any dispute, Karma wins, no hard feelings.

If you are to be a mod, all we ask is you do your best to login once a day. Reports however should go to your registered email address. So it's more important you be able to check that daily.

Sounds good to me. I've never been a moderator but I guess once we put it on practice, things will become more clear... I hope so  :geno:

I've gone ahead and made Emilio moderator in the game boards -- provided he doesn't mind  :rainbow:

I also put you in the Global Moderators group, which turned out to be necessary for certain required privileges. All future moderators will be in this group as well.

We could still use more moderators. At this point we wish those of you long associated with the board would step forward. As this makes more sense than having new users with low post counts be appointed mods.

Can you confirm for me, you can split topics in boards which you are the moderator, and cannot in boards which you are not?

Either way, you will be able to give karma on any board.

Exactly, I can only Split topics on the boards I'm a moderator but I can give karma on every board.

Just so you know.... there are also other privileges you have besides splitting topics. You just gotta look around the interface. For instance at the bottom of the page there should be some options.

BTW I tried to give karma to a user who have 17 post but 0 karma, and the system (like you say) permits me to give only 1 karma at a time, and I need to wait 1 hour between points. The user is "Maverynthia".

Ah, thanks for letting me know. I will leave the locking privilege, but you should only use it in extreme circumstances just to buy some time to decide what to do.

You should only give Karma for specific reasons. If a user has 0 Karma, just report them (bottom right of each post) with a message to give them Karma. As a mod you can only give/take one Karma per hour (and you should post why in the precedents threads)

I will even Maverynthia out to 10.

Btw, the +10 karma is pretty lax. Just make sure a user has +10 before you award them karma for a deed. If a user doesn't post in the intro thread and doesn't have an avataar for example, then could be they're just transient / won't be around long enough to worry about karma wise.

Karma is mostly for users who wanna help with the website/forum.

Yeah for sure... if you're not sure you can be forever vigilant we can double you up in some of the forums.

Maybe you could co-mod in the social forums with Emilio. Hopefully Kakizaki will offer to help in the game forums as well.

I think you'll do a good job.  You already got the place looking 20x nicer than it was before. 

Just remember, your forums are less social, more official. So if you do speak up as a mod, try to be all stuffed shirt about it :smug:
