Nah, they'll just call it Shin Megami Tensei 4, or whatever the subtitle for four may happen to be. After all, I think most the players know full well that Nocturne was the third in the series, and SE has re-numbered their games to fit the original japanese order, so that's not the best example to go by.
On a side note, I believe SMT:4 has been announced for PS3. Now I'll actually have to buy the damn thing.

It could be your internet connection. According to the website, it requires at least a 1meg broadband connection to operate properly. Aside from my 256k DSL, I'm running on the minimum specs, minus a little on ram, and I get the same problem. Essentially, your computer is registering the action before the server does, and the server is saying "what the hell" and tossing you back to where you were.
On a side note, I play on Channel 8. My name there is 川添駿

I was worried about getting lost too. Thankfully, the tutorial section gives plenty of visual aides. I still don't understand a word of negotiations, but since the end of the demon's response shows their attitude (and exclamation point for surprise, a question mark for curiosity, a musical note for happyness, and you taking damage for anger) it's only moderately confusing

Yeah, I babelfish-translated the site. I think that error means they're doing maintenence. A demonic compendium? I'll bet it operates like the console games: a record of demons you've had so you can summon them at will.

I'm Xerit. Nice to meet you all. I'm an SMT addict, which - obviously - is why I'm here. I caught onto the series after picking up my copy of Persona 2. While searching the net for related websites, I stumbled across information on the original series, and immediately began tracking Nocturne and DDS, which had been announced near that time. In fact, Nocturne is the reason I bought my PS2. And in that order, for that matter.

Hmm.... tough choice. For me it's a tie between Digital Devil Saga 2 and SMT: Nocturne. I greatly enjoyed the stories of both: DDS2 for the technology-caused apocalypse and quantum physics concepts woven in, and Nocturne for the concept of not only individual, but universal metapsychosis.
I just started Imagine today, but I've alredy got a high opinion of it, just because it allows me to "exist" in the setting of the original two.

Hello. Sorry that my first post on this board is asking for assistance. I'm having some difficulty giving a name that works. I've been using the name generator given in the directions, but the "accept" button refuses to light up. The text at the top of the screen is the same as if I'd typed someting in english, so I THINK it's telling me there are illegal characters in the name.
Edit: Nevermind. I worked it out. Now to learn how to play without wasting any more of my macca, since I think I just blew it all on a random NPC.
Edit of the edit: Great. Now I'm getting an error message any time I try to start the program up. Something about file:/Patch/hashlist.dat I think I saw something about this, but can't seem to find it again. I'll try reinstalling, but what is this?
