Right now I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay into Miyazaki's late 70s mini(well as "mini" as you can get with compendious anime)-series Future Boy Conan, a surprisingly heart warming post-apocalyptic story about a kid who pretty much raises himself after his grandpa dies on a small island after the world is destroyed in some sort of "magnetic war."  I guess its based off of an Alexander Key novel called "The Incredible Tide," which I incidentally had the pleasure of reading in seventh grade, after which I promptly forgot all about it.  Apparently its an *extremely* rare novel and was only in print (in English I suppose) for a few years in the 70s as is my understanding.  <------- Digression

Other than that its all been Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman!

And of course the new Hakaba no Kitarou series that's airing in Japan right now... Whenever they get around to being uploaded on Youtube that is...

Where are you watching that one? (Conan -- that is so oldschool I didn't even think to look for it)

Yoshitaka Amano did concept for Gatchaman.

All except Gatchaman on Youtube.

Conan is awesome.  I really can't stop watching it.  I'm on like 16...  I think it ends somewhere in the 20s, but I don't really care it's damn good for what it is.

I don't think this is the one I had in mind. The picture quality looks really good though for youtube.

Depends on what you type and where you go really.  Longer load times but no fansubs can be generally found on jp.youtube.com, just type in 未来少年コナン naturally.

The default website will give you fansubs if you search for "Future Boy Conan"

Here is what I had in mind :)

Much cooler... I didn't think it was future, but post-apocalyptic you can never quite tell/remember!

Oh boy, if I start watching golden oldies anime on youtube my productivity is bound to come to a standstill :/

It's actually supposed to take place in some sort of Nordic land I guess, but the whole movie is on youtube too, no subs I think under the title Horus Prince of the Sun.  It still looks astounding for its age though and there's a couple of songs in that movie that are actually really quite good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEgNt6URHKk

Also about a decade earlier in Miyazaki's career: 1968.

I didn't expect Horus to be quite so "contemporary." I'm surprised this wasn't dubbed and marketed in the states???

The youtube page says: "The movie revolution that heralded the modern anime era"

I was kinda hoping for something more in the 60s vein. But its really nice still!

editted: Apparently this one was popular in Russia.

A Russian asked me about it once, and I was regrettibly unfamiliar with it...

Its weird that you posted up "Sora tobu yuureisen" since that was one of the first movies in college I watched all in Japanese.  Sensei loved the shit out of that movie.  "Taro Dragon Boy" I've seen parts of, although now that I think about it I'm not entirely sure where I would of seen them...?  Possibly while I was in Japan I suppose, but I don't really remember watching much of anything while I was there tv/movies/ or otherwise.  That was actually one of my major regrets about the trip was not getting in enough Japanese terebi.  Television is kind of the window into any given nation's pop culture.

For the record, apparently "Hols" is the more respectible localization. Dunno the official line, but it does seem more Norse / less Egyptian. Of course I wouldn't put it above the Japanese to mash-up the mytho-verses.

This movie/short film looks great:

Haven't been able to track down where to watch it, other than actually AT the Ghibli Museum though.
