Persona

One of the most popular spin offs in Megaten, the Persona series of titles began on the Playstation in 1996, and, after Jack Bros, was the first in the Megami Tensei franchise to be localized in North America as Revelations: Persona. Its sequel, Persona 2 (released in 1999) was also for Playstation and was divided into two games featuring the English subtitles - Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment - also known as Tsumi[J] and Batsu[J]. After the release of Eternal Punishment in North America, Atlus reportedly made tentative plans for an English release of Innocent Sin but have since abandoned the project and have no future plans for localization. The series was later revived in 2006 with the release of Persona 3, followed by an expansion game dubbed Persona 3: FES in 2007, both of which are now available in North American and European regions. Persona 4 was released in 2008 in both Japan & North America, while a scheduled date has been set for a European release in the second quarter of 2009.

The Persona games primarily focus on the exploits of Japanese High School students and the existence of Persona users: individuals with control of powerful psychic identities that manifest in the form of Tarot card Arcana. The story lines in Persona are generally linear and take place in modern day Japan, often centering around other-worldly transformations and the goals of your mortal antagonists. Themes tend to be loosely based on concepts in the analytical and archetypal psychologies of Carl Jung and James Hillman by exploring the significance of folklore and mythology as it affects mankind. Though ponderous in scope, the drama usually unfolds in ways characteristic of most modern manga and anime.

Gameplay is often centered on individual character development and the collection of Tarot cards for fusion as opposed to the recruitment and development of demons. Another staple of the series is Igor and his 'Velvet Room,' a David Lynch-style lounge that acts as Persona's version of the Jakyou Manor. Persona themselves function primarily as vehicles for magic power and as such do not directly participate in battle, instead they are summoned to cast spells while providing various stat bonuses and resistances when you use one as your shadowy alter-ego.

Fredric Paul’s article touched off a discussion with some colleagues of mine, who agreed that Google abuses has become careless thanks to its “monopoly” with AdSense by (among other things) callously dropping AdSense participants for alleged click fraud without a reasonable appeals policy. A request for an explanation fell on deaf ears, and my colleague was left with the impression that Google “would have been more likely to work with me,” if it weren’t in such a strong position.
